Communications and Engagement Officer

Salary: £29,500 pro- rata

Working hours: Part time 4 days a week (Tuesday to Friday) hybrid working

Contract: 1-year fixed term

Location: Portsoken Community centre, 20 Little Somerset Street, E1 8AH and remote. 

Healthwatch City of London are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced communications and engagement officer to ensure that the patient as service user’s voice is at the heart of Health and Social Care decision making.  The successful candidate will drive engagement with the local community, creating visibility of our work to residents and partners. You will also be responsible for the management of our volunteer team and the exciting projects they undertake. 

This part time role (4 days a week) is within a busy small team representing the residents, workers and students of the City of London. Healthwatch City of London are the independent champion for people who use health and social care services. We’re here to make sure that those running services, put people at the heart of care. Our sole purpose is to understand the needs, experiences and concerns of people who use health and social care services, and to speak out on their behalf. We also work to get services right for the future.

You’ll also be representing our organisation at network meetings across all the various Health and Social Care providers, charity partners and patient groups across North East London.  

Role purpose

Working closely with the General Manager and Trustees you will develop and deliver the communications and engagement strategy for the organisation, making sure the patients voice is at the heart of everything we do. You will write monthly newsletters, daily social media posts, organise and manage engagement and information events and produce statutory publications. You will also deliver the volunteer strategy by recruiting and managing a wide-ranging volunteer team and identifying relevant projects which enhance and deliver on Healthwatch City of London objectives.

We have vacancies for new Board Members and Trustees. As a Trustee you will help provide the strategic leadership to deliver our goals.

We are seeking Trustees with skills in:

  • Marketing / communications / events
  • Public health / community engagement
  • Finance / governance

Board Associates

Board Associates are a network of committed volunteers who wish to become active in shaping health and social care services but are not required to give the full commitment of board members.

Drawn where possible, but not exclusively, from the local communities, they will support Healthwatch City of London to fulfill its statutory obligations.  

Board Associates are not full board members so carry none of the requirement to hold the City of London to account for the planning and commissioning of services to the people of the City of London.
