Healthwatch City of London conducted an Enter and View visit to St Bartholomew’s Hospital, focussed on nutrition and catering, in January 2017.

Summary

This report details observations on catering and nutrition provision and provides suggestions for improvement, following an Enter and View visit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Findings will be used to inform the incoming catering contractor and to ensure they meet the required CQC standards with regards to quality of care.

The visit focussed on recommendations in general and specific wards including; haematology oncology, medical oncology, cardiac, cystic fibrosis and respiratory.

Recommendations covered areas such:

  • food for health
  • staff
  • menu provision
  • increase food choice and variety food service
  • Reduce wastage and ensure patients eat
  • Spreading good practice
